It is magical to lift fabric from an indigo vat and watch it turn from green to blue.
Shibori, the Japanese tradition of shaped resist dyeing is perfect for indigo. Students will learn a variety of shibori techniques: stitch resist, folding and clamping, and wrapping fabric around a pole to create textured bundles that can be dyed on the surface to create an amazing variety of patterns. The class will prepare an indigo vat and will work on cotton and silk to make blue and white fabrics for clothing, quilts, or art textiles. Ana Lisa will be providing the fabrics, but participants are also welcome to bring some sample fabrics from their stash that they’re interested in experimenting with. Weavers and knitters may bring some sample yarns to try. Ana Lisa will bring Japanese Indigo samples and examples of her own work.

Skill Level: beginner to experienced students are welcome to attend.
